We are building a science programme that focuses on giving kids a solid "knowledge-first" foundation. In the junior years, we keep it hands-on and curious. We look at the "how" and "why" behind everyday things—like why some materials bend while others snap, or how our own bodies and local plants grow and thrive. By focusing on these core building blocks early on, we make sure students have the facts they need to understand the world around them before moving on to more complex theories.

As students move into the Middles  and Seniors, we dial up the discovery. They’ll start acting like mini-scientists, running "fair tests" to see how light travels, how forces like gravity work, or how solids turn into liquids. We also bridge modern science with Mātauranga Māori, using tools like the Maramataka (the lunar calendar) to learn about the stars and our environment. It’s all about moving from "cool experiments" to actual understanding, ensuring every student leaves primary school with a clear, logical grasp of how our physical world functions.

Alongside the specific topics, students will work on a core set of scientific skills that grow with them from Year 1 right through to Year 6. We focus on sparking a sense of wonder and curiosity about how things work, encouraging kids to become problem solvers who aren't afraid of taking risks or learning from mistakes. By the end of Year 6, our goal is for every student to have a deep understanding of our world and the critical thinking skills needed to question logic and make informed decisions. We want them to see themselves as scientists—investigating, discovering, and building the knowledge they need to be the future thinkers of Aotearoa.
