Our music programme at Whangārei Primary is centred around children being richly involved in making music as genuine musicians. Deeply rooted in the Orff Schulwerk approach, children anchor their learning with speech and movement to scaffold them into actively participating in increasingly complex singing, instrument work, improvisation and composition. During their time at our kura, children have the opportunity to use a range of instruments, including marimbas and xylophones, ukulele, and recorder.
Children with a passion for music also have the opportunity to join in our choir, ukulele ensemble, or marimba ensemble who perform at school events, local festivals, and occasionally travel to events such as the Auckland Marimba Festival.
